A sling with a small pillow will be fitted in the operating room and is to be worn for 2 to 6 weeks after surgery. The duration of sling usage (2 weeks vs. 4 weeks vs. 6 weeks) depends on the type of surgery you have. You may release the strap on the sling to straighten and bend the elbow 3 to 4 times per day starting the day after surgery. The sling may be completely removed only for showering and physical therapy.
