University of Colorado Hosts 2026 SECEC Traveling Fellows

Date: Sept 26-29, 2026

It was a great honor this past week to host the 2026 SECEC Traveling Fellows, Florian Freislederer of Switzerland and Sebastian Lappen of Germany, at the University of Colorado.

During their time in Colorado, Florian and Sebastian joined our shoulder and elbow team for several days of clinical observation, surgical education, case discussions, and academic exchange. It was a wonderful opportunity for our faculty, fellows, and residents to learn about the outstanding clinical and research work they are doing in Europe while sharing some of the work taking place here at the University of Colorado.

The SECEC Traveling Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for shoulder and elbow surgeons from different countries and institutions to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and develop lasting professional relationships. These international collaborations are an important part of advancing our specialty and improving the care we provide to our patients.

We also made sure Florian and Sebastian had an opportunity to experience Colorado outside of the operating room, including some time at Red Rocks.

It was a privilege to welcome them to the University of Colorado, and I look forward to continuing the friendships and collaborations that developed during their visit.

Denver has been selected as one of only 8 cities to host an event for the ASES National Shoulder and Elbow Week this year. This is a fundraising event for the ASES Foundation to increase awareness nationally and locally about the impact that shoulder and elbow care has on our society. This is meant to be an event for healthcare providers (physicians, APPs, PT/OT, ATCs, OR and clinic staff), patients, and industry partners. Our event will focus on recent advances in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery and we have some outstanding speakers lined up. Half of the proceeds of the fundraiser come back to our local community to support shoulder and elbow research and education.

The event will take place on the evening of Tuesday May 14th at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
